Eugy, Santi, Tiwa Savage, Seyi Shay, Ycee… Because the Afrobeats hits have been blowing us away lately, Prospect selects for you the 10 best Nigerian videos that have surfaced over the last month.
Eugy – ‘Tick Tock’
It’s been a little over two years now since the young London based Ghanaian artist started releasing quality singles at a steady pace. After collaborating with Davido, Mr Eazi, Juls, and more recently Ycee on the single ‘Say Bye Bye‘, Eugy now plays in the big leagues. Check out the intoxicating single ‘Tick Tock‘ and the stunning video.
Mr Eazi x Seyi Shay x Da Beatfreakz x Shakka – ‘Take Over’
One of the finest videos of this selection. Production collective Da Beatfreakz unfolds here a story in three chapters, respectively embodied by Shakka, Mr Eazi and Seyi Shay, in a stylish video that fits the audio perfectly.
Santi x Odunsi x Maison2500 x Izzy – ‘Icy’
This month the small world of the Nigerian alternative scene is speaking through Santi and his new single ‘Icy‘. Santi directed the video himself, sharing to a visual audience his arty feel. Something he did not long ago with the ‘Alté Cruise‘ video that surfaced in March featuring Santi, Odunsi and Zamir.
Patoranking – ‘Suh Different’
After introducing South African Gqom beats to his Nigerian fans via the incredible ‘Availlable‘, Patoranking returns this month to his first love: dancehall music!
Tiwa Savage x Omarion – ‘Get It Now’ (Remix)
Last year Tiwa Savage released the excellent Sugarcane EP where we could listen for the first time the original version of ‘Get It Now‘. The track already gets a second life with the help of American R&B crooner Omarion.
Ycee x Bella – ‘Empathy’
Last February Ycee & Bella released the Late Night Vibrations duets. A night-time, downtempo-paced EP that includes the song ‘Empathy‘. The visuals shared on Ycee’s Youtube channel follow the two artists in their respective romances.
D’Prince x Davido x Don Jazzy – ‘Gucci Gang’
D’Prince is one of the protégés of Mavin Records (Reekado Banks, Korede Bello …). On his latest single ‘Gucci Gang‘ D’Prince calls on the most global of the Naija heavy-weights at the moment as well as the boss of his label. Good thing the track is good.
Wande Coal – ‘Oh No No’
Too many clichés Mr. Wande Coal … The ‘Oh No No’ video is rather disappointing, offering models in light clothes, sports car, fat golden rings and shitty lights … But we needed an excuse to listen to the audio once again. Sorry.
L.A.X. – ‘Gbefun’
‘Gbefun‘ si a very good song by L.A.X. with an airy highlife-tinged production that Juls could have made. The video probably won’t blow your mind but if you do not know L.A.X. it’s worth a try.
Simi – ‘Gone For Good’
And to close this selection, an afropop video: touching Simi shares her new ‘Gone For Good‘ video. Check out the boyfriend.
